The flu vaccine helps protect against flu, which can be a serious or life-threatening illness. It’s offered on the NHS every year in autumn or early winter to people at higher risk of getting seriously ill from flu. Adults

We will send you an invitation for your free flu jab if you

  • are aged 65 or over
  • have certain long-term health conditions
  • are pregnant
  • are the main carer for an older or disabled person, or receive a carer’s allowance (as long as you have told us) 

We will send you an invitation for your free flu jab if you have certain long-term health conditions, including:

  • conditions that affect your breathing, such as asthma (needing a steroid inhaler or tablets), chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or cystic fibrosis
  • heart conditions, such as coronary heart disease or heart failure
  • chronic kidney disease
  • liver disease, such as cirrhosis or hepatitis
  • some conditions that affect your brain or nerves, such as Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis or cerebral palsy
  • diabetes or Addison’s disease
  • a weakened immune system due to a condition such as HIV or AIDS, or due to a treatment such as chemotherapy or steroid medicine
  • problems with your spleen, such as sickle cell disease, or if you’ve had your spleen removed
  • a learning disability
  • being very overweight – a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or above

You are alos elegible for a free flu jab if you:

  • live with someone who has a weakened immune system
  • Frontline health and social care workers can also get a flu vaccine through their employer.

Housebound patients & our patients  who live in a care home

Brighton & Hove Federation are vaccinating our housebound and care home patients. 

  • B&HF vaccinators will contact patients directly to arrange a home visit.
  • Vaccinators will attempt to call patients the morning of the scheduled visit and will knock at the door if they are unable to reach the patient on the phone

  • Visibility of vaccination records: Details of vaccines administered by the B&HF team may not be immediately visible on our records or on the NHS App and can take 24–48 hours to appear.

Pharmacies

You may get your vaccine at any pharmacy – this will be free if you are elegible for a flu jab on the NHS, and you can also pay and get one from your pharmacy if you are not elegible for a free one.
