Massage Therapy Treatments Available

Massage therapy is a manual manipulation of the body’s soft tissues. Using techniques that work on muscles, connective tissue (fascia), tendons and ligaments to enhance health and wellbeing. It is suitable for most people to receive, giving relief from tension that may be due to physical or emotional causes. Benefits include reducing muscular back, neck and shoulder pain, relieving discomfort from repetitive strain injuries, joint pain, tension type headaches and sciatic pain.

Each treatment will be tailored to your specific needs whether you have pain and stiffness from sitting in front of a computer, gardening or playing sport, or if you need to relax body and mind to help relieve the effects stress and anxiety. Aftercare advice and stretches can be given for you to do at home.

The amount and frequency of treatments depends on your condition and how long it has been present. Benefits will be felt with one massage but a series of massage is recommended. Often two / three one hour treatments will produce a significant effect, however chronic conditions such as frozen shoulder can take more. For long-term medical conditions and illnesses a long-term approach with treatments every month or fortnight would be beneficial and can also be integrated with your existing healthcare. The massages offered here at WellBN work equally well for many conditions so your choice is personal preference, treatments are also safe and suitable throughout all stages of pregnancy.

Deep tissue massage

This can often be referred to as clinical, remedial or therapeutic massage.
Deep tissue massage uses firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deeper layers of muscle, tendons and fascia. Remedial work uses a combination of techniques including Trigger point therapy, Myofascial release, acupressure and stretches. Massage doesn’t have to be painful to be effective so pressure given will be individual to your own comfort and requirements.

1hr – £60, 1.5hrs – £85
Easily adapted for children 45mins – £45 (Under 16 with a parent or carer present)

Thai massage

Is an ancient form of massage, which uses rhythmic palm, thumb, elbow or foot pressure on energy (Sen) lines along with yoga based stretches to help free blocked energy. Thai massage is a very effective therapy helping both physically and emotionally, increasing vitality as well as being deeply relaxing. It is given on a futon mattress on the floor, through clothing and not using oils. Adaptions with cushions and bolsters can be made for your comfort to make Thai massage accessible to nearly everyone irrespective of age or flexibility and is safe during pregnancy.

1hr – £60, 1.5hrs – £85, 2hrs – £100

Myofascial release (MFR)

Is applied with a sustained, gentle pressure allowing the fascia to elongate naturally. Tissue becomes softer and more pliable and fascial restrictions are released. No oil or wax is used and during the treatment sensations can vary from tingling, tightness, heat, cold and sometimes emotions and old memories may occur. You will be supported and secure during this process. Myofascial release can help if you have any chronic pain condition or injuries too painful for regular massage. It has all the benefits of massage and is really helpful in the release of scar tissue.

Fascia is the tough connective tissue holding our bodies together. It’s a 3D continuous web that envelops every structure in the body including our muscles. ‘Myo’ meaning muscles. Restrictions in one area can affect every other area, these can develop due to many factors including physical and emotional trauma, poor posture, repetitive strain and scaring.

1hr – £60, 1.5hrs – £85

Pregnancy massage

is a wonderful way of providing nurturing, emotional support. Both Thai massage and Swedish massage are safe and effective throughout all stages of pregnancy, giving you the lasting benefits of stress reduction and relaxation. Experience relief from back, hip and sciatic pain, achy legs and swollen ankles. Massage enables you to feel connected to your body and baby during a time of physical and emotional change.

The massage is tailored to your unique needs and requirements. Great care is taken with comfort and positioning with you lying on your side fully supported with pillows. Thai pregnancy massage is given on a futon mattress with you wearing loose clothing, no oils are used. Swedish pregnancy massage uses safe and neutral oil, with all areas not being massaged covered.

Post-natal massage

can provide ongoing support to reduce stress and avoid common problems such as lower back pain. Receiving a massage after baby has arrived can help your body with recovery from child birth as well as postural pain from holding or breast feeding your baby. It’s safe to receive as soon as you feel ready although if you have had a caesarean it’s best to check with your doctor or midwife, usually 6 weeks is fine.

1hr – £60, 1.5hrs – £85

Thai Foot Massage

includes work on the feet, ankles and lower legs, using a combination of massage and stretches. Relaxing yet invigorating your feet and legs are massaged with a blend of refreshing essential oils. Traditionally a stick is used for part of the massage to stimulate Reflex areas on your feet, these correspond to the internal organs of your body for a balancing and holistic treatment.

Children – £45 (Under 16 with a parent or carer present)

Oncology Massage

with perhaps a slower lighter touch can be highly beneficial for people who have had a cancer diagnosis. Adaptations and modifications may be needed depending on your current stage of health. These may include length of session, pressure and speed as well as site restrictions, considerations with positioning and avoiding any areas affected by cancer, such as tumour sites or lymph nodes. A face, scalp, foot or hand massage can be as equally beneficial and comforting as a body massage. Therapeutically it provides a comforting touch, providing a relief from that received during a series of medical procedures. It’s not however a treatment or remedy for cancer but can be work well in conjunction with any treatments you may be receiving.

1hr – £60

Reflexology

Reflexology is a non-intrusive complementary health therapy that uses pressure to work on your feet and / or hands. The anatomy of the body is reflected in miniature on your feet and contains reflex zones that correspond to all the major organs and glands. Focusing on these areas can help us therapeutically on a physical and emotional level, freeing and releasing energy to restore balance and promote deep relaxation. Reflexology is suitable for all ages.
