Urgent Care

Urgent appointments

We ask that all appointment requests come to the practice via our online triage system, Klinik Access – the system identifies urgent appointments and we have a dedicated team who will book you in or ensure you are seen by the most suitable clinican as soon as possible. Alternatively, you may call us on 01273 772020. It’s important to keep in mind that speaking directly with a receptionist won’t speed up the appointment process. The receptionist fills out the form just like any other patient, and appointments are allocated by our dedicated triage team. Patients should complete the forms themselves if possible, and the receptionists are happy to assist. Additionally, the triage team values receiving as much information as possible to avoid confusion and ensure accuracy.

What happens when the surgery is closed

If you need advice outside of the practice opening hours please call NHS 111 or in an emergency call 999 or go to A&E.

The Improving Access Service (IAS) offers GP appointments when our surgery is closed. IAS offer routine, pre-bookable appointments with a GP or nurse which help you to be seen sooner – often on the same day. The appointment may be at your own GP Surgery or another Surgery nearby.

Please call the Improving Access team on 01273 003330 for cancellations and enquiries.

Through our partnership with Brighton and Hove Federation, patients now have access to additional appointments from 18.30 to 20.00 weekdays and 09.00 to 17.00 Saturday and Sunday. These include remote and face to face GP appointments as well as appointments with a nurse, pharmacist or health care assistant. Specialist clinics are also being available (e.g. menopause and womens health). Please refer to the Federations website https://www.brightonandhovefed.co.uk/enhanced-access for updates. Access to these clinics is by contacting the surgery in the normal way. These appointments might be held at a different location to the surgery and are subject to availability.

Home Visits

Holistic healthcare in the community means some patients require home visits if they are too frail to travel to their GP Practice. Urgent visits may be available for other patients who are seriously unwell after being assessed or triaged by the duty clinician. Generally, it is preferable for care to be delivered at your GP practice where more equipment and help is available for your assessment; particularly children should be brought in to be assessed. For your convenience, you may be seen at either of the three WellBN sites at Brunswick, Benfield or Burwash. Please request home visits by completing a Klinik form or calling the practice as early as possible and preferably before 11am in order to manage the day’s caseload.

WellBN has a dedicated team of experienced healthcare professionals (Advanced Nurse and Clinical Practitioners, Paramedics, Health Care Assistants) who will be able to assess you at home and provide continuity of care for ongoing conditions. Some patients with urgent problems may need to be referred to the Roving GP service who will be able to monitor your care at home with the aim of keeping you out of hospital if this is appropriate.

What happens when Klinik Access is unavailable

Ou online appointment triage system, Klinik Access, is only available Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm excluding bank holidays. After 5pm please call the practice on 01273 772020 to speak to a receptionist who will take down your details.

What if you are unable to fill out a klinik access form

For those patients who meet any of the criteria below, please know that you can still call the surgery where one of our triage team will be able to assist you:

  • If you do not have access to internet
  • If you have a language barrier
  • If you have a disability
  • If you are in mental health crisis
  • If you are neurodivergent
  • If you need an appointment for a child under 6 months old

It’s important to keep in mind that speaking directly with a receptionist won’t speed up the appointment process. The receptionist fills out the form just like any other patient, and appointments are allocated by our triage team. Patients should complete the forms themselves if possible, and the receptionists are happy to assist. Additionally, the triage team values receiving as much information as possible to avoid confusion and ensure accuracy.
