Test Results

How We Communicate Test Results
  • Tests requested by WellBN clinicians (such as blood tests, urine/stool samples, x-rays and scans) usually take up to a week to be processed. Some specialist tests may take longer.
  • You may sometimes see results on the NHS App before a clinician has reviewed them.
Please wait for us to contact you if follow-up is needed.
  • Automatic Text Messages for Normal Results

Automatic Text Messages

Our system can now send automatic text messages when certain results are normal and do not require any further action. For example, you may receive a message like:

“Your recent blood test was within the normal range. No further action is needed.”

Benefits of this system:

  • Clear and consistent messages
  • Quicker communication of normal results
  • Allows clinicians more time to focus on patients who need follow-up
  • If a result does require review or further care, a clinician will always contact you directly.
  • Not receiving a text does NOT mean your results are normal. We will always contact you if something needs attention.
  • Please ensure we have your current mobile number.
Following developments within the practice’s computer system holding patients’ electronic health records we can now send more detailed information via SMS text messages regarding normal and some abnormal results when reviewed using a new auto-review functionality. This new feature uses a rules-based algorithm which does not include artificial intelligence (AI).
We hope this improves communication of results and this has been in response to feedback from patients.
Please note this may increase the number of text messages you will receive. If you have opted-out of receiving text messages then you will need to use an alternative method to see reviewed results, for example on the NHS App, your Airmid account online or call reception.
Other results which are abnormal or need further action will be reviewed directly by the clinician who ordered the test and will be responsible for communicating to patients as usual.
Currently there is no functionality to send messages to emails by preference, but we note this has been a user development request.
You may decide to opt-out of these SMS text messages but please note at present there is no ability to opt-out or opt-in for different types of message. If you chose to opt-out or text messages you will not receive appointment messages or other communications from the practice.
WellBN welcomes feedback with this new feature.
