There is currently an ongoing investigation at the surgery, which is being conducted in collaboration with NHS Sussex and NHS England, concerning the prescribing practices for children and young people who are receiving gender-related healthcare.

The review involves examining relevant medical cases and notes to ensure that all care provided is in line with current national clinical guidelines and safety standards.  We will be sure that laws concerning data control are not broken in this process.

The purpose of this investigation is to ensure that appropriate care is being delivered and to maintain high standards of safety and quality for all patients. It is important to be clear that all other services provided by the surgery, including adult (over 18) gender services, are unaffected.

About the Investigation

The review involves patients under 18 who are receiving or have been prescribed medication for gender dysphoria, primarily residents of Sussex. The process will assess their notes and determine the next steps—whether support will involve local mental health services, endocrinology, or transfer to specialist NHS gender services. Notes will only be accessed following patient consent. Each case is unique, and outcomes will vary. We remain committed to providing appropriate care and support throughout this process.
